Admissions tutors read thousands of statements. They are looking for evidence, not enthusiasm — specific things you have done, read or built that connect to the course.
Spend roughly two thirds of your statement on academic motivation and subject evidence, and the remaining third on relevant work, volunteering or caring experience.
Mature students should treat work experience as an asset. Explain what you learned and why you are returning to study now.
Finally, read it aloud. If a sentence sounds like something anyone could have written, replace it with something only you could say.
